Clotho
Bio

Steve Clotho has been DJing for over 9 years, first getting behind the decks in early 2000.
Growing up with a passion for music in general, and specifically old school hip-hop, he has always had a love for a funky break. After seeing his first breakbeat DJ in the spring of ‘99, Steve knew he found the sound that fueled him. Starting out spinning Florida breaks in the apartment he shared with Arod in Brockport, NY, he quickly changed directions once he heard the nuskool sounds coming out of the UK and has been spinning the most forward-thinking breaks he can find since then – along with some funk, hip-hop, house and techno for good measure.

Spinning out at the clubs, parties and events in Rochester since early 2004, Clotho joined forces with Arod and Raj Marathe in the fall of ‘04 to form NuRoc Breaks, Rochester’s only all breaks crew, to push the breakbeat sound. In the 5 years since coming together, Nical, Noah BC and Rich Kishita were added to the roster and the NuRoc DJs have become some of the most sought after DJs in the area. In January 2005, NuRoc was offered a slot on BreaksFM, the 5 time number 1 award winning radio station for breaks, becoming just the second American show on a station and with a genre of music traditionally dominated by DJs from the UK. Although the NuRoc Crew has recently dropped the ‘Breaks’ moniker from their name in order to push sounds from all genres of electronic music, Clotho still has his feet planted firmly in the breakbeat world.

With a past full of residencies all over Rochester, at places such as Tilt, Pearl, NV, the Bug Jar and the Eastman Lounge, and with crews such as Project InVent, Factory Nightlife, Sik of it All, the Rochester Culture:Collective and of course NuRoc, Clotho has had the opportunity to play along side some of EDM’s most successful artists. And with a future full of gigs across Western NY and beyond, there’s still plenty of music to come from this veteran DJ. Steve is just as comfortable in front of the decks – dancing his night away – as he is behind them, which gives him a unique insight into what really moves a dance floor. Never trying to be that “rockstar DJ”, Clotho does what he does because he loves the music and loves making people dance – and wants to share that love with anyone willing to lace up their dancing shoes, or with anyone just willing to sit back and have a listen and a smile. :)
